Food for glowing skin

All of us are conscious of our face and will do whatever possible to look more than presentable. But it’s not just what’s done outside that enhances the skin, it’s the intake that’s extremely important. It's important to make sure that the food eaten is providing the required nutrients that help the skin.

These particular food items are easily available and are quite common to most. Let’s look at some of them that have nutrients we would have never imagined about.

Tomatoes

The red colour in tomatoes helps increase the collagen strength—a protein that gives the skin the young look and keeps the skin intact. Its vitamins also protect against UV rays of the sun by hindering the skin-aging free radicals from affecting the skin. Eating it raw or cooked or even applying the pulp on the face as a mask is extremely helpful in giving a glow to the skin.

Carrots

It contains a lot of beta-carotene and vitamin A, an antioxidant which prevents overproduction of cells in the skin's outer layer. That means fewer flaky dead cells that otherwise could combine with sebum to clog your pores.

Sweet potato

Such vegetables are the best for a radiant complexion.  In fact, just half a medium potato provides enough carotenoid for your daily intake. Cooking it also provides more of such nutrients. These carotenoids are responsible for giving colour to the skin.

Turmeric

It is a very common Indian spice that can protect your skin in many ways. It has an antioxidant, curcumin, that has anti-inflammatory effects. It can be used to lighten dark pigmentations or scars caused by aging, hormone imbalance, or sun exposure.

Papaya

It contains an enzyme, chymopapain, that helps in removing inflammation of the skin. It contains another enzyme, papain, can help remove blemishes and help in curing acne when applied , the enzyme removes the pore-clogging fats and cleanses the skin giving a clear look to the face.

Oranges

The peel of the orange is very important part as it contains more vitamin C than the orange itself. The peel contains antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. It can be used as face packs for a glowing skin.

Pumpkin

Pumpkins have it all - antioxidants, vitamins (A and C) and minerals. Pumpkins are rich in zinc which helps in rejuvenation of new skin cells, and also helps regulate oil production hence prevents opening of pores which helps in enhancing the skin tone. Eating pumpkin seeds gives one a bright complexion and a naturally flawless skin tone.
